Healthy Heart Assessments

1 Australian dies every 12 minutes from Cardiovascular Disease. It is a major cause of deaths in Australia- it has a mortality rate of 27% for males and 29% for females. Number of hospitalisations by this disease is on the rise with 1 in 6 Australians being affected by it.

The prevalence of this disease increases with age. However there are many ways you can lower your risk of death by CVD by eliminating or reducing certain risk factors. These risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, being overweight or obese, smoking or physical inactivity.

Men aged 55 years with at least two major risk factors were 6 times more likely to die from CVD by age 80 compared to women who were still an alarming 3 times as likely.

Our Healthy Heart Assessment campaign assesses each individual to ascertain if they are at risk of Cardiovascular Disease.  We do this by getting them to fill out a  simple Health & Lifestyle questionnaire followed by face-to-face physical assessment which will measure their blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood glucose level, waist/hip ratio and BMI. With these results we are able to advise if they are at risk and what lifestyle changes need to be put in place to reduce their risk.
